I overheard this commercial in one of the FM that basically said that sometimes, we pay so much attention to those celebrities who are half a planet away from us that we know everything about them, but when it comes to our neighbours next door, we know nothing about them.

This really makes me ponder.

We can tell all the names of the anime/series characters but we can't tell the name of our classmates.

We can LOL-XD-HAHAH-:D all day long in messengers, but we can't even smile at those who holds the lift open for us.

We can be real nice to those strangers in forum, blogs, twitters, whatsoever and spend hours there, but when our familes call, we talk to them as if the phone company is charging us RM1000 per second.

When was the last time you talk to the one who was sitting beside you in a 3-hour bus home?

When was the last time you took the initiative to give a helping hand to someone who needed it?

Just like the old parable that would never get out of date - The Good Samaritan.

Jesus said "Love thy neighbours"

There was this guy who challenged Jesus and said "Who freaking are my neighbours then?" (of course i doubt he was that rude :P)

Instead of answering his question directly, Jesus told the parable of the good samaritan. In this case I'll erm, make the story more malaysian lar.

One day, Ah Beng was walking alone in WangsaMaju at night. Suddenly, a group of snatch thieves came along and snatched everything from him. He was left naked as he was wearing branded stuffs. After getting everything from him, they beat him and he bled and passed out.

After some time, Pastor David passed by and saw Ah Beng lying on the floor. He was thinking whether he should help him. However, he was going to church to pray, so he got no choice but to pretend that he saw nothing. Or else he would be late for the prayer meeting.

Ah Beng was growning painfully on the ground.

Not long after that, Samibelu, a very famous and righteous lawyer, walked by and he was going to the court. He wanted to help Ah Beng but he was wearing his best outfit as he was rushing to the courts. So no choice la. He put on his sunglasses and bypassed Ah Beng also.

Ah Beng felt like crying but he didn't even have the strength to.

Eventually, Pak Mat who was rushing for his company meeting passed by and saw Ah Beng. Although he was going to have an important meeting that worth millions with a client, he stopped by and carried Ah Beng into his car and drove him to Hospital Tawakal. Then, he settled down and everything and made sure Ah Beng was properly handled. He knew Ah Beng has got no money so he paid for him and left some money for him too.

and then, Jesus asked the challenger "Who was Ah Beng's neighbours"?

The Original Version
"A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead with no clothes. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, and he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, he too passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and looked after him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.' "Which of these three do you think was a neighbour to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?"

and Jesus knew that in year 2009, people would say "This world has become so complicated, it would be dangerous if we simply go and help people", so he said

"At that time, many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved."

So, start loving thy neighbours now! ;)

Wow, this entry has the deja vu feeling in it, at least for me. maybe we sync lol xD

"When was the last time you talk to the one who was sitting beside you in a 3-hour bus home?"
When I was in the flight back from Seoul, three months ago.

"When was the last time you took the initiative to give a helping hand to someone who needed it?" Let my friend copy my report wtf =.=

Anyway, like what you said, in this modern age, you would think twice before lending a helping man, fearing that it might be just someone trying to con us. I saw a blind old man holding a cloth, and on it, it was written "could you please lend me a hand?"

i thought twice whether or not i should help him, but before anything, a lady rushed to him. i felt really bad afterwards, but i'm sure that lady would be able to provide her with a better help since she had a car and i was only with my bike.
